Role Clarification =
Marital Intimacy.
In my opinion, the gifts and abilities of the
individuals should be considered when determining marital roles. Since you
are on the same team, why not use the player best qualified for the task.
In my own life, I would hate to imagine the chaos that would result if I
bought the groceries. Other husbands are highly qualified for this task.
If a husband accepts the responsibility to vacuum
the floors every Thursday, it doesn't mean that the wife will never help
him. It does mean that he will not be expecting her help. He will not
resent it if she does not help, because he has accepted that
responsibility.
The Scriptures do not tell us "who should clean
the commode," but they do encourage us to agree upon an answer. Amos
once asked: "Can two walk together unless they be agreed?" The
answer is not very far and not very well. Clarifying roles, clears the way
for marital intimacy.
