Encouragement For Each
Other.
Parents who have adult children at home can consider
themselves fortunate in several ways. First, they are able to help their
children; many parents lose contact with their adult children. Parents of
strugglers also have the opportunity to rectify past mistakes. Parents can
form new bonds of love and affection.
Another positive is that parents have additional
time with their children while the children are developing life values. I
don't mean that we preach at them, but we dialogue with them. If we listen
to them they will likely listen to us. They need our encouragement.
In order to encourage our adult children, we need to
encourage each other. Giving each other words of encouragement not only
sets a model for your adult children, but it gives your spouse the
emotional fuel to keep going. We are in this together and we need to
encourage, not criticize each other. "I love you. I'm proud of you. I
appreciate you." These are statements which encourage.
