Trying to Control is
a Source of Trouble
An overly controlling spouse is the source of many troubled
marriages. One wife said:
“You wouldn’t believe how he controls the money.
I can’t even see the check book.
He gives me a set amount for food and clothes and he take care of
everything else. I feel like
I’m a child getting my allowance.” “And to think, he is teaching other couples how to handle
finances. I can’t believe
it. If they only knew!”
This wife is identifying two common characteristics of
controllers. 1.
They are very organized and efficient.
And 2. They are
usually unaware that their behavior is inappropriate.
In facet, most pride themselves in doing a good job.
They do not understand their spouse’s complaints.
“What do you mean I’m controlling you.
That’s ridiculous.” Is
the common attitude of the controller.
